School Profile   Vineyard Elementary School (VES), a National Blue Ribbon School in 2001 and a California Distinguished School in 1997 and 2012, is located in a rural area two miles from the town of Templeton.

The campus features buildings that surround a central courtyard and entrance. A portion of the land surrounding the school structures is dedicated to a planned environmental education site, the VES Nature Trail, is home to native plants, trees, and animal, and is bordered by the Paso Robles creek. Nature studies of the flora and fauna are incorporated into the students' educational experience.

A strong core curriculum, based on the California content standards, is emphasized for all students regardless of differing learning styles or abilities.  Students are proud to attend Vineyard Elementary and to be a part of the Templeton community.   VES, the only site in Templeton serving grades three through five, has a population of about four hundred fifty-five students in the 2007/08 school year. The community, students and staff know each other well, which promotes a family atmosphere.

Each year the district receives numerous inter-district transfer requests from parents who wish to have their children attend VES.   Professional learning communities, shared leadership, and grade-level planning are highly regarded at VES because of the positive impact on student learning. Teachers participate in summer institutes where grade level teams review and plan the next year's curriculum. Students are released approximately one hour early each Wednesday to allow for teachers to plan and assess student data on a weekly basis as grade level teams.

Enrichment opportunities exist for the students as they participate in library, music, and computer classes weekly.  In addition a twice monthly art class is provided by the non-profit group Art for Children.  Instrumental music is also part of VES with a before school percussion group run in conjuntion with Music Motive and an after school strings class featuring violin, viola, and cello.  This program is offered through "Strings in the Schools", an outreach of the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony.

The Templeton community is supportive and active in our school. Parents volunteer in the classrooms and participate in decisions and goals setting throughout the school year. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and School Advisory Committee (SAC) meet regularly. School events such as monthly awards assemblies, grade level performances, Science Expo, PTO Spring Fling and Talent Show, PTO Book Fair, and dramatic performances are enthusiastically attended by parents and community members. The Templeton Educational Foundation (TEF), a group of local citizens and business people, funds grants proposed by teachers.  The Art for Children Foundation ensures that fine arts are maintained at both of Templeton's Elementary Schools by providing funding for highly qualified art docents at each site.

We are proud that VES is a positive environment for our children, teachers, parents, and the entire community.
